A Letter from Dean Kate: Pledge 2018
Dear People of God,
This fall, we have begun a wonderful pledge drive with the theme I Am. We Are. St. John’s. This theme is all about the value of telling our stories. We have heard stories from the lives of the clergy and some lay leaders and we have shared our story with people we didn’t know during the announcements on Sunday morning. I hope that you have had a chance to hear a small story from another parishioner and to recognize what incredible people we have here in this church.
Your story is not yet complete. You and God are still writing it together. God gives you inspiration through the Holy Spirit and guidance through Scripture and worship, but it is up to you to decide who you want to be. Each day, when you awaken, you have a blank canvas in front of you. Your actions write the story of your life.
When we give money to God, we tell a story that defies the selfishness of this world. When we serve another, we make ourselves in the image of God. Who will have the last word? Will it be the hatred that screams out from the news every day? Will it be the man who shot and killed innocent fans at a music concert in Las Vegas? Or will the loudest story be one of generosity, of love at the core, love that knows no bounds?
You will be receiving a pledge card in the mail very soon. I challenge you to consider giving more generously this year than ever before. Live into the fullness of who you are. Tell a story of hope and kindness. Invest in the gospel story and let it become the story of your life.
May God’s blessings rain down upon you.
In Christ’s love,
