A thank you message from Fr. David Erickson
Dear St. John’s Cathedral community,
As you have heard earlier last week from Dean Kate, I have accepted the call from a parish to be their rector and to journey with them in their life in Christ. It is an opportunity that I am very excited about and that the Holy Spirit has been preparing me for over a decade. It is an opportunity I am looking forward to.
And yet, this day, when I would move on to lead and guide a parish of my own, has come sooner than I expected, and perhaps sooner than you expected as well. We have built so many wonderful friendships together, and we have partnered together in so many enriching opportunities of ministry. I will miss them, and you.
So I simply want to take a moment to thank you.
Thank you for receiving me, and my family, into your faith family. Thank you for welcoming us and cherishing us. Thank you for not minding my children’s behavior in church. Thank you for embracing my family as one of your own.
Thank you for trusting me, for allowing me to enter your homes, hospital rooms, and lives to share Christ together. These moments have been holy moments in my life, and I have been blessed by them.
Thank you for journeying with me, for saying “Yes!” to this Jesus way of life and jumping on board. Whether it was your response to my preaching, our conversations in formation classes, or even your challenges and insights to my understandings of the Gospel, thank you. I have been enriched by our engaging together and I have grown as well.
Thank you for inspiring me. You have helped me become a priest capable of great things because you are great people. I go forth able to serve in God’s Kingdom better because of you. Thank you for helping me become the priest God has called me to be.
While our identity in Christ and the Communion of Saints is eternal, I recognize that our ministry time together is coming to an end. If I am unable to tell you individually how much you have meant to me, please let this letter stand as my heartfelt gratitude for your grace and presence in my life.
God has great things in store for all of you, and for St. John’s Cathedral, and I have been honored to be on the path with you for these last two years. Again, thank you!
May God continue to shower you with grace, so that you will continue be a blessing to each other, the city of Jacksonville, and the world, and may Christ’s peace be upon you and remain with you always.
Blessings, Peace, and Thanks,
Reverend Canon David Erickson
