Advent Quiet Morning: December 9
An Advent Quiet Morning will be held at St. Mary's in Green Cove Springs from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday December 9. The session is titled "The Transformative Power of Night and Darkness" and will be led by Gail Larson.
Advent is a time when the nights are at their longest; when we lament having to rise before dawn to begin our day, and we are driven indoors by early sunsets. Many of us see darkness as an inconvenience at best, and something to be feared at worst. Yet, the Bible is filled with stories that take place at night. We will reflect upon two of these: the story of the Magi and their journey thru the physical night, and Jacob’s nighttime wrestling the Angel and his journey thru the spiritual night. Join us on this Advent Retreat to explore how both kinds of darkness provide opportunities for our own enlightenment and spiritual growth.
Gail Larson is a life-long student of Benedictine Spirituality. Before moving to Jacksonville in 1991, Gail participated in Group Spiritual Direction at the Shalem Institute in Washington DC. She completed the Diocese of Florida Spiritual Companions Training Program in 1995, facilitated several retreats for the Friends of St. Benedict at Camp Weed and Marywood, and is a fellowship member of All Saints Sisters of the Poor. Gail continues to find God in the most unlikely places.
