Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols
Start your New Year’s Eve at St. John’s Cathedral. Voted one of the top 10 things to do in Jacksonville on New Year’s Eve, the Lessons and Carols service is a beautiful way to reflect on the passing of this year and to welcome the coming of the next. Modeled after the well-known Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at King’s College, Cambridge, the service at St. John's Cathedral is a journey through the story of salvation--the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus--told in music and scripture. As its name suggests, nine short Bible readings are responded to with the singing of a diverse mixture of well-known carols and wonderful new compositions. A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols features the St. John's Cathedral Choir directed by Timothy Tuller, Canon for Music. Organ lovers will delight in the sound of the Cathedral's magnificent pipe organ, deftly played by Mr. Tuller.
