In the Spotlight: Music Ministries
Throughout July and August, we’ll be looking at the ministries of St. John’s Cathedral each week. These ministry spotlights are intended to inform you of the various opportunities available and to encourage you to get involved. By Rally Day, Sunday August 26, you’ll have a good idea of where you’d like to apply your talents and time. This week Music is in the spotlight. We have a long tradition of fine choral music at St. John’s and offer opportunities to sing for all ages and abilities.
The Cathedral Choir
Consisting of 40 singers, the Choir at St. John’s is an integral part of the worship experience, singing every Sunday in 11 a.m. service (10:30 a.m. during the summer). The Cathedral Choir also sings for Lessons and Carols services, Evensongs, the ESJ Baccalaureate service, as well as Holy Day services. The Cathedral Choir is comprised of auditioned singers, many of whom are also accomplished instrumentalists. Adding to the Cathedral music department are principals from the Jacksonville Symphony, along with other professional players in the area. Experienced singers may arrange an audition appointment with Canon for Music Timothy S. Tuller: (904) 356-5507, ext. 120.
St. John's Celebration Singers
The St. John's Celebration Singers are a volunteer choir that sings every other week at the 9 a.m. service and at special events, like Ye Olde Christmas Dinner. Rehearsals are held every Thursday at 5:30 in the Choir Room.
