Khalil Osiris - A Freedom that Comes from Within
In his book The Cost of Discipleship, Dietrich Bonhoeffer spells out what it means to be a Christian, emphasizing the cost of grace: “free but not cheap, the cost is nothing less than everything.” St. John’s has the honor of introducing Khalil Osiris. Khalil is an international speaker on restorative justice and transformational leadership, who discovered during 20 years of incarceration, that grace was free, but not cheap. In response to that powerful truth, he turned his life into a testimony to “a freedom that comes from within.”
Khalil has recently relocated to Jacksonville after seven years in South Africa working on critical social issues including preventing the school-to-prison pipeline and recidivism. His work on promoting transformational leadership through deeper more inclusive restorative justice dialogue and action has led to the publication of a substantial body of work and products, which are soon to be published in the United States. Khalil calls his work “Reflecting Freedom” and will beworking with local schools and prison ministries in the Diocese of Florida to bring his work to our community. Khalil’s most recent book, A Freedom that Comes from Within tells his story and guides the reader through the work required to identify and live from that freedom.
For more information about this remarkable man and his even more remarkable work, visit his website: aboutkhalilosiris.com. The power of recognizing the freedom that comes from within will change your life and in so doing give you the opportunity to help change lives around you. It is a message of costly grace: free but not cheap, costing everything, but a journey that is compelling and transformative.
And after all, that is what being a disciple of Jesus Christ is all about.
