William Parrish by Linda Parrish
Our father worked for Anheuser-Busch for 29 years. In 1969, he was transferred from our home in Tampa to Jacksonville. He came to Jacksonville ahead of our family Christmas time in 1969. Jenny, my mother, and I came in the summer of 1970 when school was out. By the time we arrived, our father had already been going to the Cathedral and had fallen in love with its beauty, history and grandeur. Our father believed in living his faith and quickly became involved in the programs and missions of the church. He became involved in the Jacksonville Urban League and bought a van to carry children to play softball, which was one of their programs. He helped guide and take care of the three Vietnamese refugees who were sponsored by the Cathedral. He served on the Vestry and was on the Outreach Committee that created the concrete ramp so the church would be accessible to everyone. Another of his loves was Cursillo. He was one of the men who started the Cathedral's involvement in HabiJax, and he cooked and helped feed the homeless at the Sulzbacher Center. Our father believed in doing whatever was needed to help others. The new floor from the church to Taliaferro Hall is our father's gift to the Cathedral -- he loved the church and its people so much.
Parrish Family Floors for Taliaferro Reception Area
The family of William Parrish generously donated money to install new hardwood flooring in the reception area outside of Taliaferro Hall. The floors were completed in early September and we will celebrate with a special reception Sunday, September 29 after the 11 a.m. service. All are welcome!
