Let's Talk: A Civil Discourse Series
The Christian Formation Council has planned a series of monthly Let’s Talk small-group forums for 2019. Based on the Cathedral’s Civil Discourse forums begun in 2016, a monthly dialogue will take place on the second Wednesday evening of each month, starting January 9.
In her preaching and teaching, Dean Kate conveys the value of the Cathedral community’s diversity. She encourages parish members to share their opinions and perspectives through respectful and faithful dialogue across differences.
Does the Church have a role to play in the American Republic? What will it take for Christ’s people to promote “healing the heart of democracy” as the author Parker J. Palmer titles one of his books? How might the Gospel speak to a polarized culture?
Let’s Talk – 5:00 Dinner, 6:00-8:00 Let’s Talk Forum - will begin on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 and the discussion will use Better Angels organization resources to address How Can We Talk Across Differences?
Subsequent forums will focus on the opioid epidemic, the church’s role in public life, food insecurity, the wealth gap in America, and immigration. Each of these issues is related to Cathedral ministries and the parish members’ life experiences.
