Look What the Holy Spirit Can Do: Cathedral Arts Project at St. John's Cathedral
Dear Cathedral,
Two decades ago, Dean Gus Weltsek’s wife, Gail, began to teach dance to some homeless children who lived at the shelter across the street from the Cathedral. This small act of faithfulness would lead to the creation of a non-profit called The Cathedral Arts Project, or CAP. This program was first housed in the Cathedral House but soon grew out of our campus. Today, CAP teaches about two thousand kids a year by hiring artists to go into the most at-risk schools.
A few years ago, we opened our doors for CAP to begin summer programs. This summer, they graced us with music! Please look at these beautiful pictures. CAP is entirely donor-based and many of our parishioners are some of their greatest supporters. Like our other five affiliated non-profits, we approve the board appointments and do all that we can to support CAP.
God is so good. Look at what the Holy Spirit can do when one faithful woman decides to teach dance!
In Christ’s love,
Kate+
