Ministry Spotlight: Media Ministry
Throughout July and August, we’ve put a few of the many ministries at St. John’s Cathedral in the spotlight each week. These ministry spotlights are intended to inform you of the various opportunities available and to encourage you to get involved. Our hopes are that by Rally Day, Sunday, August 26, you’ll have a good idea of where you’d like to apply your talents and time. This week we’ll take a look at the Media Ministry, founded and led by Fouad Raja and Karim Raja.
And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive. ~Matthew 21:22
The Cathedral’s Media Ministry began as a vision and grew through prayer. Three years after praying every day for the equipment needed to live stream the worship services at the Cathedral, Fouad got the call he’d been waiting for—the Cathedral was able to purchase excellent equipment due to the generosity of one of our parishioners.
Today our online congregation is growing every week as we as we live stream worship services on Facebook and our website. People join us from all over the United States and the world including Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, England, Japan, India, and Afghanistan. We use an Apple computer for better live feed and professional video editing, a PresentationView HD video switcher and four cameras that cover the whole Cathedral. The cameras are cable-connected to the video switcher and operated by the video director using a joystick. Also, condenser microphones record the choir and the pipe organ. Our vision is to share the Gospel across the world and make His name known everywhere, to everyone.
At present, we have three video directors: Fouad Raja, Karim Raja and Nancy Purcell. Would you like to join our team? We are always looking for volunteers and will train you. Please contact Fouad ([email protected]) or Nancy ([email protected]) to find out more.
If you're still undecided, we invite you to take a short survey that is posted on our website (https://www.jaxcathedral.org/blog/rally-day-2018-/). It’s a gifts assessment because your talent is a terrible thing to waste! The survey consists of 60 questions and will help you identify areas of interest and personal skill sets that may be valuable in selecting ministries and Christian Formation opportunities. We want you to plug in and find your special place in this very special place—St. John’s Cathedral.
