Pausing to Give Thanks
Dear People of God
I want to pause to give thanks to God that the RNC will not be taking place in Jacksonville in August. The convention as well as the protests would have been right on our doorstep. We were trying hard to find ways to protect our building while maintaining hospitality and reverence. I want to thank the members of our Security Task Force who worked so hard preparing; Lisa McKenna, John Sefton, Angela Corey, Adam Kline, Mark Richardson, Linda Crofton, Ginny Myrick, Debbie Johnson, Forrest Andrews.
I also want to thank Owene Courtney, Linda Privitera and everyone who made prayer flags to surround the church with prayer. Attached is a beautiful video made by Laura Eldredge explaining why prayer flags are so necessary in this time. I hope that we will keep on making them! Life continues to move forward at a rapid clip this July during COVID. Our virtual worship offerings seem to be getting lots of views, and we have a steady but small attendance at our SD Worship. The staff and I are feverishly planning for a digital array of offerings for the fall with the belief that we will need to maintain pandemic boundaries until the end of 2021. I hope and pray that we will regather sooner than that, but it is always better to be prepared.
We are distributing great amounts of food for St. Mary’s food pantry each week. Our seven councils are at work and each one seems to be offering great service to the church. (These are Formation, Development, Outreach, Pastoral Care, Parish Life, Worship/Music/Art and Properties). We had a good Town Hall meeting last week. Jayne Hill and I were able to share our offerings with other churches through a CEEP webinar on Virtual Worship during the Pandemic.
I am thankful for all the vitality and life pouring from this community. My only wish is to see each one of you face to face. I know that will happen one day, and it will be joyous.
Please look us up online or in social media. We want to meet you there until we can meet face to face.
