Retreat Day: Tender Conversations
Wednesday, May 3, 2023, 9:00 AM
On Wednesday, May 3, The Center for Prayer and Spirituality at St. John's Cathedral and St. Mary's Episcopal Church will host an all-day retreat that will focus on our need to discuss death, our own and those of others. While the Easter church has moved into a stance of “No, he is not dead,” many of us are in hospital waiting rooms or cemeteries and need some tools to engage mortality.
Using Kathryn Mannix’s book, With the End in Mind we will discuss dying, death and wisdom in an age of denial. This wonderful book gives us the opportunity to eavesdrop on truthful conversations Dr. Mannix is a palliative care physician and professional counselor. You may purchase this book at the Cathedral bookstore but it is not necessary to do so or to have read the book before the retreat.
Led by the Rev. Laura Mageveny and the Rev. Dr. Linda Privitera who will bring their hospice and personal experiences to this time of reflection. Please bring your own brown bag lunch and gather at Dearing House at St. Mary’s in Springfield. The hours are from 9 a.m.– 3 p.m.
