Tara Winds Clarinet Choir
Music in Worship presents the Tara Winds Clarinet Choir at the 11 a.m. service Sunday, May 19. The Tara Winds Clarinet Choir is a part of the Tara Winds Community Band, which is based in Atlanta. In addition to playing during worship at St. John's Cathedral, the band will be featured in a joint concert with the First Coast Wind Symphony May 19 at 3 p.m. at the Terry Concert Hall on the campus of Jacksonville University.
The Tara Winds Clarinet Choir was organized in 2011 as an adjunct group to the Tara Winds Community Band. The group, led by Dickson Grimes, was featured at the 2014 Clarinetfest in Baton Rouge. In July 2019, the group will again perform at Clarinetfest, in Knoxville, Tennessee. The group has played at numerous universities across the southeast and has performed joint concerts with the world famous bass clarinet duo Sqwonk and English clarinet soloist Julian Bliss. The members of the group are all amateur musicians, with jobs ranging from CPA to middle school band director. Sunday’s performance will be the group’s first appearance in Jacksonville.
