Young Adult Ministry at St. John's Cathedral
Young adults, the population born between 1984 and 2002, also known as Millennials and early Gen-Zs, make up the majority of what is considered the “unchurched” population. Unchurched does not mean they are without faith. It simply means that for one reason or another they have left the church or have never attended a church.
In August of 2017, following the third goal in the Vestry’s strategic plan, a young adult ministry was started. We began meeting off campus weekly for dinner, prayer, and fellowship, rotating between member’s homes. In March of 2018, we re-branded the group name from Y.A.M.S. (Young Adults Married and Single) to Current. The group has grown from three members to eight in the last six months. In anticipation of future growth, we decided to move our weekly Compline meeting to the Cathedral campus. We now meet on Mondays from 6:30-8:30 in Room 305. All young adults are welcome to join us, however childcare is not provided.
We also have a fundraiser coming up on October 18 at Blackfinn Ameripub from 4:30-6:30 in the evening. Everyone is invited to come out, meet and support the young adult ministry. If you can’t attend, please consider donating to the ministry as every donation matters. The cost is $10 and includes one draft beer or house wine, hor d’oeuvres, and 1 raffle ticket (additional tickets may be purchased on site).
We will be raffling off gift baskets donated by Peterbrooke Chocolatier, Sephora, United Health Care, and Blackfinn Ameripub (must be present to win). To purchase your ticket simply click the link below. Proceeds will go to providing scholarships for events like Vocare, a young adult Cursillo-style retreat.
