Youth Ministry News
Dear Parents and Youth
I wanted to share some exciting information and links with you all pertaining to our Diocese of Youth Ministries program. Along with Bishop Howard, youth leaders from all over the diocese have been putting together leadership events for youth.
The first one is the Diocesan Youth Commission. Bishop Howard has approved the creation of a Diocesan Youth Commission. This group will be made up of 13 youth and 7 adults. They will work together to provide some guidance for our existing programs, and they will also help plan additional Diocesan events. They will plan events (not necessarily overnights, but fun one-day activities) for all churches to attend once every other month. Youth applications are available here and are due December 2nd.
The second one is the Diocesan Convention Delegates and Pages. The Diocese of Florida is unique in that we give youth 10 delegate spots at Convention, and they have seat, voice, and vote. The diocese is currently taking applications for delegates. These students should be in 11th or 12th grade and available to attend Convention held Saturday, January 26 at Camp Weed. Because this is a day meeting, lodging will not be provided. Allison Vining, the Camp Program Director, will be there to assist/supervise the youth, so it is not necessary for youth leaders or parents to attend. The application is due Dec. 2 and is available here.
In addition to delegates, we also have pages at Convention. These students (9-10th graders) help Diocesan staff ensure that Convention runs as smoothly as possible. The application is also due Dec. 2 and is available here.
These are awesome opportunities for our youth to get involved. I highly encourage any of you that feel the call to serve as a leader please to go to the links and apply. I’m really excited for our youth to be able to participate in a leadership capacity within our diocese. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.
