A Lenten Menu: Prayer and Practice
What practices will you adopt this Lent? This year, we are focusing on the seven vital signs of the spiritual life: Prayer, Giving, Worship, Learning, Serving, Grouping and Work. See the menu below and choose a practice or two to follow over the next 40 days.
-My morning devotionals, Morning Prayer with Dean Moorehead, are just 5-6 minutes each morning. These can be sent to your email Sign up here and choose Morning Prayers and Sermons or viewed on our YouTube channel or Facebook page beginning at 6:10 a.m. each day.
-Centering Prayer or sitting in silence with a holy word to quiet the mind
-Fasting is a form of prayer often taken on in Lent. Fasting can be from foods but even more importantly today might be plastic. See the Work section for more details.
-Walking daily with breathing prayers
-Wisdom Flow Chair Yoga is offered online. See Weekday Live for a recorded video.

-Giving any financial gift to a godly cause, or volunteering by giving time
-Virtual at 10 a.m. and in person socially distant worship each Sunday at 8 and 10 a.m.
-Weekly socially distant noon day services on Wednesday (Healing) and Friday (contemplative) held at 12:10 p.m. in Cummings Chapel

-Write cards to people who may be lonely
-Make a daily phone call to someone who is lonely
-Discipleship Groups - Meet and pray with one, two or more other believers. This is essential. If you want to find a group, contact Owene Courtney
-If you cannot meet via zoom, consider a conference call
-Some of the online classes involve break out groups such as Kate’s class on prayer
-Take steps towards this if you can’t complete the task of establishing your group!

-Fast from plastic- No plastic bags is the beginners lever. Intermediate adds fasting from plastic bottles. Advanced means changing your lifestyle to fast from buying any kind of plastic container at all.
-Fast from Road Rage
-Fast from Social Media, News Outlets or other forms of digital media
-Fast from foods that are unhealthy or distracting to you
-Try a short period of fasting from all food (only for those who are healthy and not battling any kind of eating disorder)
