Walk in Love: Episcopal Beliefs and Practices
by Scott Gunn and Melody Wilson Shobe
Take a journey through The Book of Common Prayer, the Christian life, and basic beliefs of our faith, guided by two Episcopal priests - Scott Gunn and Melody Wilson Shobe. Walk through the liturgical year, the sacraments of the church, habits of daily prayer, and the teachings of Anglican Christianity. See how our prayer shapes our belief and our lives and how our beliefs lead us into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. This class meets in Cummings Alleluia Chapel and is led by Joe O'Shields.
Jane Eyre: A Christian Young Woman's Faith Is Tested
The course is 8 weeks long and each class will last for an hour and a half. The first class will be general introduction to the book. Books can be purchased in the Cathedral Bookstore. Participants will be asked to use this text as it contains useful supplementary material and so everyone will have the same pagination.
The next six classes will be based on reading the novel. The second class will be on Gatewood where Jane lives until she is 10. The third class will be on Lowood the school she was attends until she is 18. The fourth and fifth class will be on Thornfield and her love affair with Mr. Rochester and its disastrous consequences. The sixth class will be about Jane’s experiences with her cousins at Morton. The seventh class will be about Jane’s return to Thornfield. The eighth class will be a general summary and evaluation of the modern, and the Christian, interpretation of Charolette Bronte’s great novel. And hopefully, as Charolette Bronte intended, a resource for the reader’s “authentic” Christian life.
This class meets in Ingram Lounge and is taught by Jay Wright.
