A Call for Hope
Dear Cathedral Family,
I know that you all must feel as if you are on a roller-coaster. Just when we seemed to be slowly and cautiously proceeding back to some kind of new normal, the killing of George Floyd hit this nation with a force and shed a spotlight on our racial injustices. And, the nation has been lit on fire.
My first word to you is this. Everything will be ok. We know this because we believe in a life beyond this one, where all are loved and cherished and free. We are here, as Christians, to serve Jesus and this world is giving us plenty of opportunity to do so. If you feel powerless, or just plain confused, here are some of the things that you can do.
- Dedicate a time in your day to pray. I am sending out daily meditations if you want to watch or find any other kind of prayer that nurtures your soul.
- In your prayers, ask God to help you discern how you can follow Jesus.
- Look at the scope of our influence. What can do you? Reach out in love to someone with a letter? Make a donation? Sign a petition? Join a peaceful protest? Speak out against the violence?
- Do whatever your discern is best. And give thanks for the ability to do so.
I urge all of you to watch the news and read the papers but also to make sure that you take times away from the media too. Rest and replenish yourself and remember that you alone cannot solve the ills of the world. Only God can do that, and you are enlisted to help.
We remain open Tuesdays-Fridays for pilgrims who wish to pray. The holy sacrament will be available on Wednesdays and Fridays at noon. Come. Light a candle. Pray with friends. The Cathedral is a sanctuary. Come and pray for this nation and for the world.
I send you much love,
Kate+
