God Is Still at Work
Dear Cathedral Family,
I miss you all so much! The virtual services we are offering are going so well. Our attendance is far above the numbers we would normally have come to church in August. Our socially distant services remain very small. Many simply don’t feel safe coming to church in person. And, seeing one another is masks and not being able to hug is hard. We do have a faithful core who come every Sunday, about 50 people in all. Starting in September, we will combine our two SD worship services to one service at 10 a.m. on Sundays. In this way, our congregation will worship all at the same time: 10 a.m. virtual and socially distant.
Just when I feel a bit lost, some light breaks in. Sunday, in the Florida Times Union, there was an article about the life and vitality of the urban core of Jacksonville. And, guess who is at the heart of this life? We are!! Two of our incredible nonprofits have jumpstarted construction in our district, and this construction is moving forward rapidly. Cathedral District-Jax has sold an entire city block to Vestcor. 120 apartments will be built on this property. And, AgingTrue, a nonprofit that we birthed in the 1960s, is building another residential low rise for the elderly. Just when we think things are only getting worse, our nonprofits amaze us!
I know this time is hard. I do miss you. But Jesus' work is going on, either online or in person. Never forget that God is with us. Always.
In Christ’s love,
Kate+
