Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols
December 31 at 4 p.m.
Cathedral Nave
A New Year’s Eve tradition at St. John’s Cathedral, the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols has been voted one of the top things to do on New Year’s Eve in Jacksonville. We agree that it is an excellent way to start the last evening of the year!
While the specific carols sung during the service change from year to year, we follow the example of the service at King’s College and always begin with “Once in Royal David’s City” and end with “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.”
This year’s service will include guest readers from our wider community, including
Anne Eagen – Pediatrician & Chairman of the Board, Wolfson Children’s Hospital
Tiffany McCall – Pastor, First United Methodist
Ginny Myrick – President & CEO, Cathedral District Jax
Brian Ward – Development Director, Catholic Charities
Courtney Lewis – Music Director, Jacksonville Symphony
Donna Deegan – Mayor, City of Jacksonville
At the champagne reception, we will toast to the New Year London-style! We will tune in to live-stream BBC One, hear Big Ben’s famous “bongs” at midnight in London, and enjoy the breathtaking fireworks over the London Eye.
🥂 Music. Fellowship. Tradition. And a toast to the New Year—no passport required!
