The Stanly and Claudia Gordon Music Endowment

CONTRIBUTORS NEEDED

Over the coming years the St. John’s music department hopes to increase our musical offerings with the goal of becoming one of the premier Cathedral music departments in the country. To this end, the Stanly and Claudia Gordon Music Endowment was established in 2013 by one of St. John’s most generous music donors and advocates, the late Claudia Gordon.

St. John’s is blessed to have not only one of the finest concert organs in the area, our wonderful 2006 Austin-Colby instrument, but also two great performance spaces in our nave and Taliaferro Hall. We plan to continue offering the finest quality sacred liturgical services, while increasing the number of non-liturgical community music events such as concerts, recitals, and chamber music performances.

The Stanly and Claudia Gordon Music Endowment is a 501(c)3 with its own governing board. The Endowment’s formula is to use half of the interest generated annually for the support of the Cathedral’s music program; funding both an increase in yearly musical offerings and underwriting the long-term maintenance of the Cathedral organ. Our hope is that this fund will help to ensure that our music department has the resources it needs to remain a vital part of the spiritual and cultural life of the St. John’s community for generations to come. We aim to raise the principal fund to at least $500,000, and we hope to accomplish that in the coming years through a diverse set of funding efforts.

You may consider the Gordon Endowment in your estate planning. If you’d be interested in contributing in this manner, please contact Timothy Tuller, Canon for Music, or donate directly through our cathedral website using the "Donate" button and choose Special Music Programs in the pull-down menu.
