Cathedral Arts Project (CAP) is celebrating 30 years! What began as one dance class in Taliaferro Hall for 10 students has now reached more than 30,000 children in Northeast Florida and beyond. In 1993, Gail Weltsek and a small group of volunteers at St. John’s Cathedral began teaching dance to 10 children residing at a nearby transitional housing facility. Within a few years, CAP services grow to include dance programs at area elementary schools. And by the year 2000, CAP incorporated, received 501(c)(3) designation, and elected its first board of directors.
On Sunday, January 22, we will celebrate Cathedral Arts Project at St. John’s Cathedral. The CAP String Ensemble will play during the 10 a.m. worship service. Immediately after the service, all are invited to view the CAP Art Exhibition in Taliaferro Hall, listen to a brief presentation about CAP in Ingram Lounge and enjoy a celebratory coffee hour!
