Outreach Council invites you to join them at the November Lunch & Learn to hear about a Pilgrimage to Guatemala, April 21-28, 2024. We will visit Safe Passage, a top-rated educational institution that empowers people and advances progress in a place of great poverty. Safe Passage is testimony to one person’s vision to make a difference.

A brief history
Hanley Denning, Safe Passage founder, went to Guatemala in 1997 to study Spanish. After a trip to the slums by the Guatemala City garbage dump, where she witnessed children foraging for food rather than going to school, she sold her possessions and started a school, Safe Passage.
Today Safe Passage is an international model, educating over 500 children and 100 adults from nearly 300 families. Safe Passage breaks the cycle of poverty by providing education, healthcare, nutrition, and social services. St. John’s Cathedral pilgrims will be ambassadors for this transformational program.
