April 22, 2024An Evening of Art & Music
April 22, 2024In the Book of Acts, the story is told:
When the day of Pentecost had come, the disciples were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
At St. John’s Cathedral, Pentecost will be celebrated with a reading of this passage in many languages, a fire breather will represent the “tongues of fire,” and the Rt. Rev. Jay Lambert will confirm 17 parishioners as new Episcopalians, and clergy will wear RED vestments to signify the work of the Spirit. You may wear RED too!
Pentecost is also a birthday celebration for the church. There will be cupcakes for all! Please join us for this festive Sunday.
Almighty God, on this day you opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation by the promised gift of your Holy Spirit: Shed abroad this gift throughout the world by the preaching of the Gospel, that it may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
