Think Tank on Creation Care: Climate, Energy, and the JEA Coal Plant (Part 2)
On January 25, we will gather for Part 2 of our Climate Think Tank, beginning at 11:45 a.m. and lasting approximately 90 minutes. This session will focus on the JEA coal plant and the broader questions it raises about climate responsibility, public accountability, and the future of energy in our community.
Building on the recent Sierra Club press conference, we will discuss what was learned and explore how citizens can thoughtfully and effectively engage with JEA’s decision-making processes—particularly around transparency, public input, and actions related to the eventual closure of the coal plant. The conversation will center on education, civic engagement, and practical ways to stay informed and involved as these decisions unfold.
All are welcome to attend, whether or not you participated in earlier sessions or attended the press conference.
Below is a video from the Sierra Club press conference outside JEA on December 22. Susanna Sapp will be speaking with us on Sunday, January 25, along with parishioner John Burr, Sierra Club, and Green Spirits member.
Caring for Creation-Part 1
📅 Sunday, October 12
At our first Creation Care Think Tank, we watched a portion of Episcopal Public Policy Network’s webinar Season of Creation: Biodiversity, Conservation & Policy.
After the presentation, we worked together to identify concrete actions our Cathedral community can take to address climate change and conservation issues in Jacksonville.
Welcoming the Stranger-Parts 1 & 2
📅 Sunday, September 21
Our first conversation centered on Welcoming the Stranger, a theme rooted in scripture and central to Christian life. Members of our congregation with experience in this area shared perspectives to spark discussion and prayer. Together, we explored how we might embody Christ’s love more fully as a community.
📅 Sunday, November 9
In Part 2, the conversation moved from reflection to response. Panelists John Caulfield and Rebecca Black offered concrete proposals and practical pathways for addressing the challenges of immigration, drawing on policy expertise, lived experience, and moral conviction. Their insights invited participants to consider how faithful advocacy, informed action, and sustained engagement can help bring order, compassion, and justice to a complex system. Below is the Proposal that was created as a result:
