"As the Vestry, we believe that we are called to be disciples. As disciples, we live in Eucharistic community. To live in community means: we worship every Sunday together; we practice a daily discipline of prayer; we actively support the cathedral by generously pledging and giving our money; and we serve Christ through the ministries of St. John’s Cathedral." (Vestry Stewardship Statement)
I was born and raised in Jacksonville, and attended and graduated from Episcopal High School. It was at Episcopal that I was introduced to the Episcopalian faith and was intrigued enough to become confirmed. Although afterwards I wandered away for a time, I was led back to St. John’s almost twenty years ago. My wife Nicole and I were married here, baptized our children here, and we have been firmly planted here at the Cathedral.
Worship, Music & Arts Council
The Cathedral is much more than a beautiful building. It is a genuine community of believers who come together to nourish our ministries of bringing people to Christ in the very many ways we find ourselves called to do that.
I am very optimistic about St. John’s Cathedral. I want to see members of St. John’s come to know one another as family. Continuing to emphasize Discovery Weekend is an excellent way for members of the parish to get to know one another, and needs to be energetically supported by clergy and past attendees. I also want to see Cursillo become a ministry that a majority of Cathedral members wish to attend.
Parish Life Council – Youth Ministry
St. John’s Cathedral is a community of believers committed to serving God. St. John’s Cathedral is an integral part of my life because it is where we help each other experience and understand God’s presence in our lives. Being in the heart of downtown gives me an ongoing reminder to be the hands and feet of Jesus. The Cathedral is a place where I can be a part of prayer, worship, service, stewardship and study – where I can continue to grow as a Christian and become a better follower of Jesus Christ.
Service and Outreach Council
I continue to be impressed with the role of this Cathedral not only in the lives of its parishioners, but also in the broader Jacksonville community. Badly paraphrasing the maxim “to those whom much is given, much is expected,” I feel called to give back to this Cathedral family and to the greater Jacksonville community.
