Bring a Little Cheer!
October 27, 2026On All Saints Sunday, November 1, St. John’s Cathedral gathers as one community to remember those who have gone before us. It is one of the most meaningful services of our year.
A Day for All the Saints
The Church has honored the saints since its earliest centuries. By the 800s, November 1 was set aside as a feast for all the faithful departed, both the famous and the unknown. In the Episcopal tradition, “saints” means more than those with stained-glass windows. It includes the grandparents, friends, and neighbors whose faith shaped our own.
Reading of the Necrology
During the service, we read the necrology aloud. This is the list of names of loved ones who have died. Each name is spoken with care, and each one is held in prayer. It is a tender and holy moment to hear the names of those we love joined with the whole communion of saints.
Prayers in the Bishop’s Garden
After the 10:30 a.m. service, please join us in the Bishop’s Garden. The choir will sing at a brief prayer service to honor those who are buried there. It is a peaceful close to a morning of remembrance.
Join Us
All are welcome.
