Vital Signs of Faith: GIVE
April 19, 2024Season of Creation: Discussion Series
April 19, 2024Dear Cathedral,
We tend to think of growth as something that children do. “Oh! How you have grown!” the adults used to say to every one of us at family reunions. As a kid, I remember being rather baffled by these comments. I hadn’t done anything intentional to grow. It just happened. Why did the grown-ups make such a big deal about it?
Spiritually we are called to never stop growing. Unlike the physical body, which grows to adulthood, thrives for a time, and then begins a process of decline, the spiritual body keeps growing. We are called to examine the lessons we learn every day of our lives. We are called to learn from our failures, relationships, and this world’s confounding events. In fact, almost everything that happens to us can be a tool for growth. The question is simple, “Are you willing to let God mold and shape you through the events of your life?” or “Are you willing to change and be transformed?”
Growth can be scary, and it can be painful. Most of us would prefer comfort and safety to growth. But God wants us to become more and more like Jesus. That is what is asked of us. This week, please ponder these questions:
- How have you grown?
- What have you learned this week?
- How can you become more Christlike?
May God bless you.
With love in Christ,
Kate+
