Eastertide Dean’s Forum
April 15, 2026The exhibits in Taliaferro Hall are offered to the cathedral community so that we might explore how art helps us encounter God through beauty, imagination, creativity, and theological depth. Artists are invited to share their work in response to the themes set by Dean Kate for the church year. Our goal is to deepen conversation about art and its relationship to faith and spirituality.
We feature a variety of artistic styles and approaches. Painting, photography, pastels, sculpture, mosaics, icons, and mixed media have provided opportunities to share how artists see the world around them and within them. These embodied forms help us deepen our own spiritual formation through dialogue and soulful reflection.
We have in-house artists who enjoy the Painting Place twice a week. Our cathedral bookstore features art in lectures, tours, and conversations. We engage with the Cathedral Arts Project students and the wide community of artists who work and exhibit around Jacksonville. At least once a year, we invite parishioners to share their own work or work they have valued. One year it was icons; this year it was crosses. In the fall, we hope to engage all ages in an art project.
Our Easter season artist has been Larry Wilson, who will be present this coming Sunday, May 17, at 11:45 for a walk-and-talk about his sculptures. All are welcome to this conversation.
As a working artist myself, I have seen how the arts provide an opportunity for transformation, for engaging with those who see differently, for catching sight of the broad reach of the Spirit. All art is a work in progress, just like us.
