St. John’s Outreach Council gives us opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others. Some of our ministries are:

Angel Tree – At Christmastime, we provide gifts for children whose parents are incarcerated. Volunteers are needed to provide gifts, make phone calls, and make deliveries. Contact Megan Cochran at [email protected] or (904) 233-9583.

Blessings in a Backpack – We pack food for the weekend for elementary school children who might not otherwise have food. Contact Joan Burchell at [email protected] or (434) 760-0280. For more information, go to www.blessingsinabackpack.org.

Church Without Walls – We provide bagged lunches for this outdoor worship service quarterly. Contact Lynn Doiron at [email protected] or (904) 703-0847.

Family Promise of Jacksonville – Three times a year, St. John’s hosts a maximum of three homeless families at the church. Volunteers are needed to provide groceries for the Day Center, prepare meals to be eaten at the church, serve as hosts during the day and overnight at the church. Volunteer training will be scheduled this fall/winter. During the pandemic, we are providing funding for our guests to stay at extended-stay hotels, to keep everyone safe. Contact Brooks Moore at [email protected] or (904) 382-8981. For more information, go to www.familypromisejax.org.

Hunger Fight – We hope to have a food packing event at St. John’s within the next six months. Last winter’s event has to be rescheduled due to COVID19. Individuals may go to their location at 2935 Dawn Road to participate in a packing event. See www.hungerfight.org for further information, or call
(904) 374-5623. You may also be interested in hosting a packing event at your workplace.

Ministry for Immigrants and Refugees – Contact Pat Ellis at [email protected] or (904) 641-0482.

“One Blood” Blood Drives – scheduled every 9-10 weeks. Contact Lynn Doiron at [email protected] or 904-703-0847. For more information, go to www.oneblood.org

Outreach Council – We are hoping to expand the Outreach Council with some additional members. Contact Lynn Doiron at [email protected] or (904) 703-0847.

St. Mary’s Food Pantry – Volunteers are needed to donate food, assemble bags of food for clients, pick up food at grocery stores and bring it to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Springfield, and lawn maintenance. Contact Emily Waters at [email protected] or (904) 710-9354. For more information, go to www.stmarysjax.org/outreach/food-pantry-ministry.

Sulzbacher Center – Volunteer make and serve meals to the residents. This is temporarily suspended, due to COVID19.

We are Christian women, both lay and ordained, who are strengthened through the discipline of a Rule of Life and supported through the companionship of our sisters. We are all at different stages of our Christian journey – some have just begun and some have been on this path for a long time. But no matter where we are on our sacred journeys, our primary goal is the same – to know Jesus Christ and to make Him known to others.
