Raquel: The Soul Speaks

St. John’s Cathedral Art Guild presents an exhibition of stunning deeply felt paintings by Raquel in the Taliaferro Hall Art Gallery.

The exhibition opens on February 19th and runs till April 2nd, Palm Sunday.

Every painting in this collection speaks from the depths of the artist’s soul through the work of her hand. Each canvas is infused with such emotive power that it will leave the attentive viewer almost breathless.

One painting evokes creation. Its almost molten paint flashes forth. Multiple landscapes in the exhibition unfurl before the viewer’s eyes. The glorious profusion of autumn is presented in a painting that does not want to end at its borders. And, of course, there is the ocean, the sea, the rising and falling of the waves.

In a quieter, more reflective mood, we are presented with still life paintings, but with the subject matter still in Nature and its native habitat.

And when you least expect it, Raquel puts you in the audience of a great concert in front of the light-drenched stage. Raquel’s paintings want you to clap your hands and shout “Bravo!”

These amazing thickly painted color-drenched paintings come from the hand of a woman whose Spanish heritage informs every application of paint. Moreover, the paintings reveal a certain freedom of expression that can only come from someone who has lived a long life to the full.

All artwork is for sale through the Cathedral Bookstore and Gift Shop. Pricing is available here. Contact the Cathedral Bookstore for more information.
